Cognitive Processing Skills

Cognitive processing skills are the invisible mental processes that are foundational to the more complex skill of simultaneous interpreting. Cognitive Processing Skills in English and Cognitive Processing Skills in ASL are companion volumes, that when used together, heighten linguistic flexibility in both ASL and English. A DVD of ASL source material accompanies Cognitive Processing Skills in ASL and a DVD of English source material accompanies Cognitive Processing in English . As in all of the EIS source material, the DVDs contain naturally occurring language that is not scripted in advance to optimize the opportunity to practice cognitive processing skills with realistic language samples.

The strong emphasis on ASL comprehension makes Cognitive Processing Skills in ASL a valuable addition to advanced ASL classes as well as beginning level interpreting classes.

The Teacher's Guide contains all the material that the Study Set contains, plus added features including examples of appropriate responses to the questions in the student's workbook and tips for teaching. Working interpreters, through independent study, can earn up to two CEU's for each volume.
